2:07 pm - Concert on Radio

In about one hour (3:00 pm EST) there will be a Steve Earle concert broadcast on CBC Radio One's Definitely Not the Opera. I don't know where or when it was recorded.

You can find a stream here: http://www.cbc.ca/listen/index.html

If you don't see this message in time, you can timeshift by listening to the broadcast from later time zones. The concert is to occur two hours after the beginnning of the show (after a news update).

I just wish I knew how to capture an audio stream.

FYI, they stream in WMP only.

6:13 pm - Steve's radio show...

Hey, just a note to say that if you're a fan of Steve's radio show "The Revolution Starts Now" and you're an iTunes user, you might want to check out the nine (so far) iMixes I've created with tunes played by Steve and his guests on every show to date. (To see who was on a given episode, go here.)

Read more...Collapse )

There are other mixes on there by me from the show, because I was initially doing 25 songs or so per mix, but I went back and started re-doing them in chronological order and in larger chunks. I'm now doing them in chunks of about 75 potential songs per mix, not counting clean and explicit versions of some tunes.

(A couple of episodes are completely unrepresented there: One was an all-Beatles episode, and the other was all live performances from a DVD set of The Dick Cavett Show, so neither had any music available there.)

Hi everybody. I'm a huge Steve fan and have been for quite a while. I love his music and have been to a couple of concerts. "Sidetracks" and "I Feel All Right" are two of my favorite CDs. I also listen to a lot of Lucinda Williams. Well that's pretty much it.

12:03 am - Syndication feed for the radio show's Web site

steveearleradio syndicates the program list for The Revolution Starts Now, Steve's weekly music program on Air America Radio. The site will point you toward the archives where each episode is posted the Monday morning after its Sunday night broadcast, and also tells you (about the middle of each week) who's on for the coming weekend.

I'm assuming most members here know about it, but if not, here's what else I said about it in syn_promo:

The radio network's unapologetically liberal, as is Steve, but 75 percent of the shows have been 80 percent nonpolitical, focused more on the music. Guests like Emmylou Harris, Stephen King, Chuck D, Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes), and Jonathan Demme come in and play their favorite music for an hour, discussing what the songs mean to them. And if you don't like their politics, no one's forcing anyone to join.

If you were making a mix CD for a friend to sort of introduce them to the noncrappy side of country, and you could only put *one* Steve Earle song on it, what would it be??

9:19 pm - hey hey hey...I'm new here...

hey my name is John, i usualy go by Dominic...I've liked and known aboot Steve Earle ever since i was a yong boy (I'm 16). The Essencial Steve Earle is the CD I've known for the longest time, my Dad grew up around the cumberland area, wich includes Copperhead road, and things of that sort (it actualy exsits!!). I've allways known every word to "devil's right hand" and "copperhead road" its just been one of my childhood quriks...

Well my name’s john lee pettimore,
Same as my daddy and his daddy before.
You hardly ever saw grandaddy down here,
He only came to town about twice a year.
He’d buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line,
Everybody knew that he made moonshine

7:28 am - Hi everyone.

Hey folks. I'm damon and i'm pretty new to Steve Earle. In fact if it wasn't for a friend of mine, i wouldn't know a thing about him. I was fortunate enough to be presented with a ticket to his show last night. Not knowing a single song by heart, I knew i was missing out on something just by looking at this guy. As well as seeing Earle for the first time, it was also my first time going to a major concert. One moment was very sad. But he turned it into comedy. He wanted the crowd to sing Christmas in Washinton. Only about a fourth of the crowd could sing along. Hell, by the third time he tried to get the crowd motivated he said "It looks like South Dakota is not ready for the revolution". We all cheered the hell as he left, and more so when we were presented with 2 encores. I left the venue with an injured wrist from clapping so long and hard. Needless to say, he said in a very respectful manner that he'd love to come back.

Come this Thursday i'm going to pick up a few of his albums.

Kick ass type of guy.

Hi there, newbie here. I noticed on the official Steve Earle website (www.steveearle.com) a weblog. Does anyone know if there exist a syndicated account for that one? Or could someone create one if it doesn't? I would love to read Steve's stories through my friendslist!

Thanx in advance.

3:20 pm - Steve at Bogarts!

Hey everyone...all one and a half of you :) Just thought I would tell you all about the show I went to see on Thursday night! First off! It was *awesome* Steve is in fantastic form and the Dukes kick major butt! If any of you have the chance to catch him on this tour, do it. It was one of the best times I've seen him. That being said, here is a little bit about the show:

Steve Earle and the Dukes at Bogarts (in Cincinnati Ohio) on 10/14

Allison Moorer was the opener. She was OK. She had a very pretty voice. The best song though, was the one that her guitarist wrote. She played for about half an hour.

Steve came out and tore the house down. He started off with a lot of new songs. He book ended the first set with the two versions of 'The Revolution Starts Now'. Played Home to Houston. Got a lot off of Jeruselem. Allison came out to sing with Steve for three songs. They did 'Conspiracy Theory', 'Comin' Around', and 'You're Still Standin' There'.

He played some classics, Taneytown, Guitar Town, I Ain't Ever Satisfied, and Copperhead Road (among others). It was actually really funny, because I was in the crowd and I said, 'I sure hope we get Christmastime in Washington tonight' and right then he started playing Christmastime in Washington. :) He told the crowd that if we sang loud enough, Woody Guthrie would come back and help us out. After the first chorus, he told us that we did an awful job and that we had to sing louder of Woody would think we were Republicans :)

One thing I love about seeing Steve live is that he always pulls out a surprise or two. At Bogarts, he did a Steve Earle and the Dukes-ified cover of 'Revolution' by the Beatles. It was *really* good. :) He also did his cover of 'Time Has Come Today'.

One of the more amusing parts of the show was when he played 'F the CC.' It was hilarious to see the crowd doing the 'F-U-C-K' chant. The crowd was great. I swear, Steve fans are like the four H club. You've got Hippies, Hipsters, Heathens, and Hillbillies :)

He did two encores, and if the crowd had it their way, he would have just played all night long. He played about two and a half hours. He didn't do as much talking as I thought he would, but when he did talk it was political.

During the entire show, I was inspired. That man's passion and balls...I swear. I wanted to go out and change the world after I saw him. I love Steve Earle and I hope he's around forever :) Seriously! Go see him if you can! :)

And that's the end of that! Have a great day!

I've decided that today is a Steve Earle kinda day...so I've been listening to him as much as possible. I don't know about you guys, but for the most part, I enjoy the new album. I am obsessed with 'I Thought you Should Know'. I've had that song on repeat about three times now. What is everyone's favorite song on the new album? Is there anyone out there breathing? Reading this?

Does anyone know when Steve is going to post the tour dates in support of his new album??? I read somewhere that he was going to target states that were big battlegrounds in the election...I go to school in Ohio, which is one of those, so I hope he comes out here! Otherwise I'll just have to drive home (to Washington, DC) or go see him when he comes to one of the cities near by. Or I can just drop out of school and follow him on tour. How does that sound???

2:35 am - The Revolution Starts...ummm...well..any day here...

Has anyone else heard the new album? I gotta say, I finally got to listen to it the other day and I think its probably Steve's weakest album. I have no problem with Steve doing a political album, but this makes most of Toby Keith's 'political' songs sound intelligent. "Condi, Condi"? I vote worst song ever, as well as bordering on racism.

What happened to the man who wrote "Christmas Time In Washington"?

10:10 am - well the revenue man wanted grandaddy bad...

hello... I just joined this community so I thought I would introduce myself. I was raised on steve earle -- my dad's band played "copperhead road" and "I feel alright" and all of that good stuff -- enough that it left a permanent impression on me, despite my gothic tendencies. Currently I'm really into the "Jerusalem" album and thus needed to find people that share my interest -- I believe I've found the place!

I know Steve is having a show in St.Paul/Minneapolis early august, so that's where I'm going with my family to celebrate my 18th birthday -- so you know how much I love his music!

Look forward to meeting y'all through posts!

OK Guys, this community needs some action!!!! :) We have to support the Steve-ola!

Here is a question: Has anyone gotten the 'Just an American Boy' DVD? Any thoughts on it??

Another one: Has anyone read the biography????

And a third: Does anyone wanna make a cool community icon or background or anything???

I haven't seen the DVD, but I think it would be interesting...I'm dying to know what it's like.

I just started the biography....it's really cool so far. Although it's just as much about his sister as it is him.

Third: I have no talent in that area, so I'll leave it to a pro!
